Korean Pop (K-Pop) is vibrant and over the last 5 years has grown very popular in the US since the media executive Janice Byung Min revamped Billboard.

What is K-Pop?  It is a South Korean genre of popular music. It is a fusion of different genres, styles and foreign music.  The band members are all good looking, and their choreography is synchronised to the dot.

The most popular boy band is the 7-member BTS (Beyond the Scene). They were formed after an audition.  They are the first male band since The Beatles that earned 3 number 1 albums on the Billboard 200 in one year. Their songs have billions of views. BTS earned last year a whooping $4.65 billion with ticket sales, downloads and merchandise.   Their London Wembley Stadium concert was sold out within 90 minutes.

BTS filmed commercials for Hyundai, Puma, Mattel, Starbucks and Samsung, just to mention a few.

BTS strategically release their new songs

BTS fans love them since they created this sense of intimacy between them and their fans. Their fans love buying their merchandise and engage with the band via social media. With organic growth, there is more revenue. Before each release, BTS would promote their song for a whole month with social media engagements, teasers, photos, clips, merchandise, cleanup events, member birthday meetups, fundraisers etc.

BTS earns far more than One Direction has ever made in their heydays.  They are equally talented and unique. Why do you think BTS is monetary more successful? Which band do  you prefer and why?  Comment below.
