Rapper gets 9 months jail sentence over lyrics and tweets glorifying terrorism
By Neo Joyce
Thousands of protestors demanded on Tuesday evening the release of the radical leftist Rapper Pablo Hasel. He was arrested by the Spanish police, after barricading himself at Lleida university in northeastern Spain. He was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2018 on charges of glorifying terrorism and insulting royalty in his rap songs. The deadline for handing himself in had expired:
Hasel used his rap songs and tweeted that the former King of Spain was a mafia boss, compared Spanish judges to Nazis and made reference to the Basque separatist paramilitary group ETA.
Hasel was arrested by police officers carrying guns and wearing protective body gear.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo jailing people and stopping their rights to freedom of speech should not happen in a democratic European country such as Spain.
A massive crowd marched in Barcelona shouting “Freedom for Pablo Hasel.”
The riot police clashed with protestors when they started to fire, looted shops and attacked the police.
