The first part of the Oprah interview with Harry and Meghan was broadcast yesterday on CBS. More parts of the interview will be broadcast on “CBS This Morning”.
Of course this is one part of the story, we wait to see if there will be any response from The Palace. In fact Harry and Meghan indicated they would have remained if the royal family had provided more support.
One comment already hitting the rest of the world was about the potential colour of the baby’s skin tone before his birth. Another claim about the baby before it was born was the royals didn’t want the baby to be a prince or princess before they even knew what the gender would be.
Meghan described a ‘secret wedding’. They called the archbishop saying they wanted their own union before the rest of the world has its spectacle and how they were married three days before the wedding.
Meghan said she and her family from the beginning were under instruction to make “no comment” to the press and this would apply to family and friends as well. The implication being they would be protected if they follow instructions. After being married she says lies would be told to protect others in the family rather than tell the truth to protect her and her family.
One person who remains untouched is the Queen. Meghan loved being in her company and received some beautiful gifts. Harry also mentions the respect he has for the Queen.He also said everything was good with his father, brother and Kate, but how it changed after the Australia tour. He had a couple of calls with his father when they were in Canada but after that he stopped taking his calls.
Another big subject was mental health primarily linked to the UK Press. Meghan would stay awake all night not knowing what the solution would be. She didn’t want to be alive any more. I needed to get help from somewhere. Oprah asked if she was having thoughts about suicide and Meghan agreed. This interview and sharing their version of the truth was an important part in addressing the mental situation. If lies are still being told about them how could they expect them to remain silent?
One piece of news that has been overshadowed and in itself would normally have been viewed as exciting news was announcing the gender of the new baby. Meghan announced “It’s a girl”. To have a boy and then a girl “what more can you ask for”? They both agreed now they have a family of four and their two dogs the family is complete, it is “done”. The home for their family is obviously now abroad, but they say this was never planned. They left because they were asking for help but couldn’t get it. They initially wanted to continue their royal role possibly in a Commonwealth country but that is not of course how it has worked out.
