A number of movies have been nominated for multiple awards, but Mank leads the pack with 10 nominations.

It is about screenwriter Herman J Mankiewicz as he developed the screenplay for Citizen Kane. The Director is David Fincher and his father, Jack Fincher, wrote it. Written in the 1990’s, Jack died in 2003 and never saw the movie being made. Gary Oldman stars with Amanda Seyfried and Lily Collins in headline support. Filming started in 2019 and in tribute to 1930’s movies was filmed in black and white.

The plot of the film is based around the fact that Orson Welles was given complete freedom to develop his next movie, Citizen Kane, and he recruits Mankiewicz, who at the time was recovering from a car accident and has a broken leg.  Ultimately Welles and Mankiewicz receive joint credit and they share the Oscar for best original screenplay.

Gary Oldman is no stranger to the Oscars, having previously picked up the award playing Churchill in “Darkest Hour” and also nominated for “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”.
