In a new 4 part HBO documentary (starting today), previous sexual allegations are reviewed in great detail.
In 1992 Dylan Allen, then the 7 year old adoptive daughter of Woody Allen, claimed he assaulted her sexually in one of their attics. This was always denied by Allen and became part of the discussion in the 1993 custody suit where Allen’s sexual relationship with 21 year old adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn was also core to the case.
Up until 2018 a large part of the Public seemed to believe Allen until the arrival of #MeToo resulted in a big fall in demand of actors wanting to work with him.
Based on the strength of Dylan Allen’s interview with Amy Ziering and Kirby Dick the documentary makers started to dig deeply into the original case documentation and new interviews with Mia and Dylan, also Dylan’s brother and numerous legal and psychological experts.
Mia originally declined the interviews but decided to get involved after discussion with Dylan. It was previously unseen court documents that really persuaded everyone to take part. A big focus was made on trying to prove what Dylan said was true by going through large amounts of photos, videos and court records. Key is the video of Dylan taken by Mia just after the alleged assault. Experts confirm the language used is consistent with a child describing sexual abuse.
While the documentary appears to provide strong evidence as to Allen’s guilt, Allen continues to deny all allegations.
In the fourth episode Mia is accused of physical abuse by the only children refusing to appear (Previn and Moses) – claims that Mia denies.
