Acting Graduate and not getting any jobs. All decent jobs go to nepo babies or rich kids, what to do next?

RADA, Juilliard, Strasberg, Bristol Old Vic and USC are top drama schools, but still many of their students cannot find decent acting jobs and become estate agents or waitresses. Why is that Nepo babies who are not trained get the jobs trained actors cannot get? Some rich kids' parents invest in films for their kids to get a part in that film.

Nepo babies is a well-known issue in the entertainment industry, particularly in the UK and USA, where the film industry is highly competitive and difficult to break into. Acting graduates from prestige drama schools, who are not from wealthy or well-connected families may find it difficult to secure acting jobs, as many roles are given to “nepo babies” or children of wealthy parents who invest in films for their kids to star in.

This can be frustrating for talented actors who have worked hard to excel in their craft and are struggling to make ends meet. Some of them have worked hard to develop their skills and were lucky to have earned their success through their hard work and dedication. At present it is very hard for graduates from the UK and USA to get acting jobs, especially with the SARG Astra strikes, nepo babies and people who invest in their own films if they are rich.

Drama schools that demand high fees should invest in professional films and plays, with governmental subsidies and grants.

Film companies should only get film rebates and grants if they have greater diversity and inclusivity in the industry and more needs to be done to support emerging talent from all backgrounds.

The entertainment industry is a highly competitive and challenging field, and success often depends on a combination of talent, hard work, and luck. While many people wonder why certain actors get a certain part because they are talentless nepotism may be a factor in offering them acting jobs.

If you cannot find an acting job after graduating with a BA (Hons) in acting in your pocket, there are several steps you can take to increase your chances of success:
  1. Keep honing your craft: Even if you are not currently working as an actor and work as a waitress, it is important to continue practicing and improving your skills. Take classes, attend workshops, and participate in local theater productions to stay sharp and build your resume.
  2. Network: Building relationships with other actors, directors, and industry professionals can be key to finding new opportunities. Attend industry events, join professional organizations, and use social media to connect with others in the industry.
  3. Look for auditions and casting calls: There are many websites and resources available that list auditions and casting calls for actors. Some popular options include: Backstage

    Indeed

    ZipRecruiter

Register with local casting agencies and talent agents to see if they have any opportunities available.

Consider non-acting jobs in the entertainment industry: There are many jobs in the entertainment industry that do not involve acting, such as production assistants, casting directors, and writers. Taking on one of these roles can help you gain valuable experience and make connections in the industry.
  4. Be persistent: Finding success as an actor can be a long and difficult journey, but it is important to stay positive and keep working towards your goals. Keep auditioning, keep networking, and keep honing your craft, and eventually, you may find the right opportunity to launch your career.
  5. Write your own film or plays and act in them.  You can make films for YouTube or send your ideas via an agent to Neflix, Amazon etc.
  6. Connect with people from the industry via Linkedin

If nothing helps, you can try to learn Chinese, an Indian language, Korean, or Japanese.  Their film industry is thriving. The film industries in Japan, India, South Korea, and China are thriving. These countries account for the bulk of the Asian film market and generate more than 35% of the world’s box office revenue. In 2019, China’s share of the world market was as big as 22%. National film producers in these countries are very competitive in their respective markets, and they successfully compete with foreign counterparts. The Japanese film industry is experiencing an upswing, and the South Korean film industry has been successful in recent years. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the film industry in these countries, and they have a long way to go before pre-pandemic revenue levels are regained. Overall, the film industries in Japan, India, South Korea, and China are significant players in the global film market and are expected to continue to thrive in the future.  You can also collaborate with people in the film industry of those countries as a film producer or director.  If you write a screenplay you can try to find investors from Europe, America and Asia.
