The 25th Bond movie “No Time To Die” not only has one of the largest budgets in history ($250M) but is also heading in the direction of most postponements.
Of course the background is Covid19. Bond always generates huge revenue but given the size of the budget the producers cannot afford to release the movie at a time when cinemas are still closed. It was originally scheduled for release November 2019, then postponed to February 2020. After Director Danny Boyle left it was postponed until April 2020. As Covid19 was now spreading a decision was made to delay until November 2020. In October 2020 with new waves of virus spreading, it was again delayed until April 2021. This was viewed as the last straw for Cineworld cinemas in the UK and they have closed their cinemas indefinitely. In January 2021 there was yet another delay announced – until October 2021.
“No Time to Die” new Director Cary Fukunaga has Bond no longer in active service and living a quiet life in Jamaica. But the peace doesn’t last long when that famous old friend Felix Leiter of CIA fame arrives asking for help. A scientist had been kidnapped but helping with the rescue turns out to be much more difficult than expected and this leads to an encounter with a mysterious criminal makes use of a very dangerous new type of technology. This will be Craig’s final journey as Bond and Oscar winner Rami Malek (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) plays the criminal.
The song for the movie is performed by Billie Eilish. She was only 18 years old at the time making her the youngest ever singer of a 007 movie. The song was designed to work within the emotional story of the film.
